Chimneys attract many types of birds and animals including squirrels, raccoons, snakes and more. These dark secluded areas provide an attractive habitat for these critters to live and nest. These animals pose many hazards to the occupants of the home.
Sometimes they find their way into the home and can wreak havoc on the carpets, window treatments, furniture, or even the people inside. Many of these animals carry insects, bacteria and diseases which can be transmitted to people.
Many times the animal will exit the chimney on its own, but many times not. The situation normally determines how the animal should be removed. At times extreme measures must be taken such as creating an access hole in the chimney.
It is always recommended to install a chimney cap to keep these intruders out of the chimney.
