Chimney caps are a must for all chimneys. They serve as a spark arrester to keep loose sparks and embers from escaping the chimney and possibly igniting combustible material on your roof. Caps minimize the amount of rainwater that would otherwise go directly down the chimney. Water is very detrimental to the integrity of the chimney. They also keep birds, squirrels, and other pests from entering the chimney. Chimney caps can cover only the flue opening of the chimney, the entire chimney top, or just a portion of the top. They are made of stainless steel or copper. Galvanized caps can be a little more cost effective but will eventually rust or burn out.
The chase cover is a stainless steel or copper covering which thoroughly covers and protects the top of the chimney. The chase cover will also be equipped with a chimney cap. It can be a one or two piece design. A chase cover is a good alternative to rebuilding the crown of the chimney or creating the best top termination for a liner installation. |
